Cosmetics: How To Make Them Last Their Full Lifetime
Women love indulging in the act of make – up. They buy and stock make – up products and the mere act of just browsing through the store windows for eyeliners, mascaras, kohl pencils, lip glosses, foundations can be a huge stress buster for them. So much so, that the drawers in the dressing are full to the brim, but most women tend to stick to the products they have been using since forever. However, cosmetics are not manufactured with an expiration date and therefore, they demand extra care and attention. No cosmetic should be used beyond a time period of 3 years, no matter how neat and clean the product may seem to be.
To make cosmetics last their full lifetime, proper storage is very necessary. And for this, the storage directions should always be kept in mind. If not mentioned, the product must always be stored in a cool, dark and dry place and should under no condition be exposed to heat. The bottles and tubes should be properly capped to reduce the risk of bacterial growth. Sharing of products should be reduced to avoid the chances of infections.
Products like mascaras, kohl pencils and eyeliners should be disposed earlier than other products because they tend to deteriorate quickly. Applying mascara not only makes it possible for bacteria to grow on the stick, but also, the bacteria are pushed inside the bottle. The air helps as a breeding ground for these bacteria. Hence, mascara should be thrown off within a 3 months’ time span.
Others, as a rule, should be disposed of within an year of opening the product. Products like lip liners, concealers should also be in the bin after a year. Compact powders and eye shadows can remain in the shelves for a good 2 years. The make – up sponges and brushes should also be replaced frequently.
